A glazing bead is a narrow strip of timber, plastic or aluminium that holds the glazing in the glazing rebate of a window or door frame and neatly finishes the joint. The bead clamps the glass against the opposite side of the rebate.
Application
The glazing bead is fitted after the glass has been placed, on the inside (or outside) of the frame. Functions:
- Fixing — the glass is held against the fixed rebate edge or the glazing gasket on the other side.
- Sealing — together with glazing sealant or a gasket, the bead provides a wind- and watertight joint.
- Finishing — the visible joint between glass and frame is neatly covered.
To make burglary harder, the glazing bead is preferably on the inside, so the glass cannot be removed from the outside. Beads are secured with panel pins, screws or clips.
